AUSTIN’S GREEN & GOLD WISH
Born with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, 11-year-old Austin of Eagle River knows how to fight to win. He has never let his medical condition keep him down. He’s a very happy kid who loves life and loves being around people.
Austin has a passion for sports, especially football. When he found out that he qualified to receive a wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, it didn’t take Austin long to decide that he wanted to meet his favorite team, the Green Bay Packers and his favorite player, Clay Matthews.
In mid-October, Austin and his family made their way to Green Bay, where the Foundation made arrangements for them to stay at the Tundra Lodge Resort & Water Park. On wish day, a limousine surprised Austin and his family, escorting them to hallowed Lambeau Field.
At Lambeau, they received a special behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium, which included a stop on the field so that Austin’s dad could hold him up for his own Lambeau Leap. In the team locker room, Austin discovered a locker with his name on it, complete with his own personalized jersey and an autographed game ball.
At the Packers’ indoor practice field, Austin met all of his favorite players, including his hero, linebacker Clay Matthews. After practice, Matthews even joined Austin and his family for lunch in the team cafeteria. There, the two talked football and shared some laughs, an enormous smile plastered on Austin’s face. The wish ended perfectly the next day, as Austin and his family enjoyed a Packers victory over the St. Louis Rams!
Even though the Green Bay Packers have had a very busy schedule since winning last year’s Super Bowl, they still make time to spend with wish kids like Austin. In fact, the team is granting wishes at every single possible home game this season. Go Pack Go!
